Oregon is located on the West Coast in the heart of the Pacific Northwest. Oregon is nicknamed the “Beaver State,” due to the large number of the animals that called the state home when the fur traders and pioneers first arrived. Oregon is a pacific playground with over 360 miles of beaches and more than 30 million acres of forest. Its larger cities like Portland and the college town of Eugene are vibrant and eclectic places with plenty of activity. Oregon’s majestic natural beauty combined with its relatively mild temperatures make the state a great place to call home and a wonderful location to retire.
Currently, A Place for Mom partners with more than 100 retirement communities in Oregon that offer independent living. The median monthly cost of independent living in Oregon is about $2,400.

I love Evergreen Court and the people who work there. The food is amazing and the cooks come out and get to know you better. Very very clean. This is the best place in this area, lived in this area for over...
It was a perfect transition from rehabilitation hospital ( several months) back to the real world. While at Lakeview, my sister-in-law was busy, engaged, and began advocating for herself . She gradually...
The staff here is amazing! Everyone works so hard to assist and genuinely cares about the residents. They Listen and address your concerns quickly, to bring about a satisfactory conclusion. This is really...
It's been great, thanks! The food is stupendous and my dad is loving life! I would absolutely recommend it to others who are seeking reprieve from having the guilt of taking care of their neglectful,...
Very helpful and very attentive. Mom decided on a regular studio because it was on the main floor and she wouldn't have to use elevator. They have a studio plus that's a little larger and a 1 bedroom. Only...
It is a very comfortable retirement home with a very attentive staff. Lots of artists here. Some homes are very dolled up but lack friendliness, this one is friendly. The property, it is nestled (hidden)...
All 5s. What we like the most about the community is the Wonderful staff. Great community. Excellent food. Tons of activities. Nice facility. My mom is extremely happy there. Comments on that constantly.
I enjoyed my time there they just couldn't give me the care I needed. The only thing that stood out is the food. I understand that has not changed.
For anything that needs to be done, replaced or fixed, I have to contact them multiple times before it is done. Do not use the renters insurance they offer, it has terrible ratings. The employees are very...
Best I like the grounds the scenery 2nd the price. Would recommend. Nice people nice place. They do not cater to special diets but there is usually a number of items to choose from
Their food could be less sweet. There is a lot of staff turnover. They did go out of their way to get [Name Removed] entered the second time. They sent a nurse out to enroll him.
Rebecca was amazing. The personal touch she gave my mom, the atmosphere. The salad bar was a huge plus in the dining room no other place had that. I would definitely recommend Garden Way to others
The facility is well kept and the food is good. The staff are all fantastic. I would recommend them to others who are searching for a place for their loved one.
The staff are amazing. They have been extremely responsive to all of our needs and concerns. Every place could use a full time doctor and 3 nurses that are "hospice care" level humans. (Think Angels) You are...
Independent living facilities in Oregon are not regulated by a state agency, but they must abide by local rental regulations. However, if an independent living facility shares a campus with an assisted living facility, then the assisted living unit must follow Oregon assisted living requirements.
Stand-alone independent living communities are treated the same as any ordinary apartment complex in Oregon. Therefore, independent living landlords must adhere to the state’s residential landlord and tenant regulations and provide the following to residents:[01]
Independent living residents must also adhere to their tenant duties, which include maintaining a clean, sanitary environment, using appliances in a reasonable manner, and following any requirements in their lease.[01]
Oregon independent living communities must also comply with the federal Fair Housing Act and American with Disabilities Act (ADA). This means landlords cannot discriminate due to a resident’s disability and they must provide reasonable accommodations and modifications to allow them the same rights as each resident.
A reasonable accommodation is a change in rules, policies, practices, or procedures to allow a resident with a disability an equal opportunity to use and enjoy their unit. Examples of reasonable accommodations include:[02]
A reasonable modification is a structural change to a resident’s unit or shared spaces in the community. It can offer residents with disabilities easier access. Examples of reasonable modifications include:[02]

The state of Oregon doesn’t make independent living rental inspection reports available online. However, the general public can submit a public record request and ask for an inspection report of a specific independent living community. Do note that you’ll have to pay a request fee.
If the Oregon Public Records Request Team doesn’t have the inspection report you seek, you can contact your city’s or county’s local housing authority for more information.
