Everyone has been extremely helpful and kind. The facility has been neat and clean every time I have visited. My parents love the variety of food choices and the quality. The apartment is spacious, and the floor plan is great. They have enough room for regular furniture and their scooter, wheelchair, and walker. You're not tripping over everything.

I really liked the facility and the person who took me around was very knowledgeable— she actually shared more than at other facilities. When I asked her about the demographics for the residents she said “ they come from all over and haves moved to Houston to be nearer their children!” (I realized I didn’t want a place that was mostly from one neighborhood like many of the others) A few items on their disclosure statement were concerning so I talked with them and got a better feel for the answers (for example they said they don’t accommodate special diets but they actually do)! I really liked that they had some apartments with balconies in assisted living (most did not) and I think this is going to make a big difference for my mom.

Perfect peace of mind for mom

Our experience has been great partly because mom is easy going. Her apartment is more than adequate and quite large actually. I love that activities are offered most days because that is needed for brain enrichment. With memory slipping sometimes mom forgets she has other things to occupy her mind, solitaire on her phone, coloring books, puzzles (jigsaw). Some things need to be reminded. The food selection is well varied, however I personally would like to see less fried items. I also strongly wish fresh fruit was served at breakfast. Things like melons, peaches, etc. Like a cut up fruit salad. I feel too many meals come with rice and different starches like beans should be offered (black, pinto, red, etc.) And different varieties of potatoes. Or a pasta dish, but not mac and cheese. Dry cereal should also be available in a few varieties. Cleanliness of the building is great. I do not always feel moms apartment is cleaned well. But mostly it is great. Mom loves it there and that is all that really matters. I feel she is safe, watched over and known.

My mom moved into Heartis memory care first week of [date removed]. So far we are very happy with the quality of care. The staff, nurses, and med techs are very sweet to her and attentive. My mom is doing much better with the structured routine and is settling in very well. She enjoys the activities and likes the food. Nurse Practitioner comes to the facility weekly and will see her if she needs to be seen for anything. This has relieved a lot of stress from myself and sister who mainly looked after her care. Her dementia has progressed since my father's passing, so we feel grateful that she is being looked after when we are not around.

Review for The Village on Morehead

I love the city location: so near to things I enjoy, like theatre, symphony, concerts, ballgames, huge, upscale mall, plenty of parks & best of all, I live 2-5 blocks from 85% of my doctors!!! One of my favorite services offered is the concierge driving, free within 10 miles, longer- I pay cost about same as Uber. The Village excels at offering fantastic and well balanced programs suited to various tastes, both within the Village and beyond. They arrange a variety of "off campus" events, like winery tours, whiskey making operation, antique fairs, pumpkin picking w/friends, day at the beach, bowling, public events in the larger Charlotte area, outside volunteer opportunities, and on and on… Another favorite of mine, are the outside restaurant trips, sometimes single sex, other times both. We can suggest our own preferred places to eat out and enjoy the vast culinary array that our city offers. This is especially great for members who don't have access to cars. The internal programming is of 2 types: reoccurring classes, like various types of exercise, games - like mahjong, chess, cards etc And instructional classes like painting, crochet, tai chi and more Then there are discussion groups, book clubs, more scholarly learning subjects, like archeology, history, world religions, linguistics, -- I have to admit to being very "nerdy" & thrilled that there are several others like me. I ALWAYS want to learn!!! The in-house program manager keeps us well entertained with very frequent, live, in-house events: various types of musical offerings from opera, Simon & Garfunkel type performers with a live band and singalongs. Also popular are the wide variety of singers & musicians who play period music, love songs, showtimes, sports themed songs, country western etc Then there are the funny guys, from standup, improv, and special guests like the one who operates the current Candid Camera series, Peter Funk, son of the original. It was hilarious! We've had gaming nights, like poker, (but no real $) tournaments, trivial pursuit, our very own Olympic Games: with odd # floors competing with those on even numbered floors. Games were adapted, for our member participants, so that everyone could attempt prizes in many competitions. We had team t- shirts, applauding guests, and, of course, the medals! Really a blast with constant laughs and good hearted "aggression" towards the "bums or slackers" made towards those on the opposing team. I love the life here! If you want to be alone, it's easy, with many places to relax in quiet surroundings or meet a new friend. If you want to meet more people, there are plenty of ways and systems to get you connected. Special nod to the very caring administrative staff, who want constant feedback and suggestions to improve or change things around. Their communication with members is transparent and continual. I really think they're great. There are parties for many occasions and staff are all in on festivities, whether working or attending as associates. Parties are never tacky, always upscale and gorgeous! I'm blown over by how much effort goes into making members happy, comfortable, feeling part of the greater community and watching out for our welfare at the same time. I urge people who are investigating possible places to retire, to ask for a tour here, at The Village on Morehead. Stay for a meal. Talk to other people who have been in your shoes (like me!) You'll be so glad you did. If Village on Morehead isn't exactly as you wish, you'll certainly make comparisons with the next places you look at. I'll bet they'll pale in comparison. This place is my "cup of tea" and you may prefer "coffee," so to speak. Find what works best for you. So wherever you choose to go, I wish you heartfelt best wishes. I remember how big a decision it was for me. If I can ever help with more general things like getting ready to move, where to sell things online, finding people to give you honest appraisals about antiques, jewelry, etc. We all go through this extraordinarily BUSY time. So don't try to reinvent the wheel. Just ask/email. No strings. Just a helping hand in friendship.

Sometimes the helpers are not very nice and very sensitive. Some of the services have not been offered like assistance with showers 3X's a week. Fortunately, we just use her home health service. The food could be better. Administration seems good when you bring things to their attention. Overall it's good value for the price.
