Atria

My mother had been living at Arbors in Westbury. Though I don't think she would be happy in any assisted living situation, the grounds of the Atria are beautiful, the hallways wider and the dining room more inviting and bright. So far, we are satisfied with the care she is receiving at Atria.

My mom is very happy there. She likes the staff, the activities, the food, her room, the other residents, etc.

Atria was a nice community, I would have gone here. We found a good deal at another community that was a nicer. The community we found was like a Hilton Hotel, this isn't on that level, but still a nice place.

It's very clean, but we are having trouble getting them to come in and clean the apartment. The public spaces are kept nice, but we are having trouble getting the housekeeping set up, garbage to be emptied, etc. It didn't happen automatically. The staff is very nice and very hard working. There was a conference on dementia, but they used the room the movies are shown in, and they had a movie listed, but they hadn't planned that out well. They don't carry certain things, and she is paying a lot of money and she doesn't feel like she is getting her money's worth. They had a lunch outing, and she was told that the first three people that sign up for it was free, and that was not quite true. There are other things, that she didn't realize she was going to need to provide like toilet paper. There have been a lot of miscommunications. They used to have a selection of flavors for jams, individual packages, but now they have decided to have a jar of jam, and now there is only one flavor, and no one asked what kind of flavors people like. The weekends are kind of slow there isn't a lot going on, on the weekends. The meals seem very rich and don't seem very healthy.

The people at Atria seem to really care about the residents. I am somewhat disappointed in the housekeeping/cleanliness aspect because I feel like more could be done. I wish there were more/structured activities for residents if the memory care unit.

The parking at this community can be a little limited – you have to park on the street because the available parking is limited. The food is very good. The staff is very friendly. The community is very clean and pleasant.

Welcoming place, lively activities in Alzheimer's area. Mom maybe be beyond most people there, nice pond with paved path around. Menu looks yummy

It’s independent living. The best aspect of this community is how clean it is. The staff is very friendly. Because it’s independent living the care services don’t really apply. There are plenty of activities.

My loved one was here briefly for respite care. The facility itself was very nice. They had a friendly, pleasant staff, and the care and services they provided were all high quality. However, the facility just wasn't a good fit for my loved one socially. The median age seemed to be around 80, and my loved one was much younger than that, and felt a bit isolated socially.

Liked the brightness of the place when I walked in. Nice rooms and staff seemed very friendly and engaged with residents. Liked the mix of residents - independent and assisted.

We toured this community when we were looking into care options for a loved one. I like what I saw here, it seemed like a nice place, overall. The staff were all very friendly, and the facility itself was clean and well kept. However, the facility was multiple floors, which I didn't think would have been something my loved one would be able to navigate easily.

This community was a little smaller than the one I chose. They didn't have many casitas, and they didn't have any available for my time frame. They were all very nice and Hope was a doll, but I was really looking for a casita.

The community was very clean and the director knew all the residents by name. She was very engaging and overall the residents were very happy.

Its in Palisades 2 rooms available now. $6000/month plus memory care fee

Very nice and happy community. They are redoing and renovating areas, which is bit inconvenient for the residents. The food main meals are good but small portions and you feel rushed to finish. They say they have diabetic food options but they are never available. The snacks and Hors D'ouevres at a few get-togethers are not very healthy and disappointing. Staff is great and friendly. The residents are also very nice.

Independent living, assisted living, and memory care. No openings right now. Independent living can eat in the dining hall one meal a day, but it is served at 6:30? Otherwise, looked good. Attractive, 24 hour LVN's on duty. Activities, certain days to dr. appts. Outings. Felt noisy? Crowded dining room for Sunday brunch. Didn't get to see independent living apartment.

The activities are a very hard thing to judge, because you aren't there. We are in memory care and I see activities on the schedule, but I don't know if they are always happening. I think the social interaction is limited at times. The memory care is a smaller program as well. They don't seem to have a real exercise program here, they have a chair movement thing, but they don't focus on it very much. The food doesn't seem to be an issue. Laundry isn't a problem either. Everyone is nice, and it's kept clean.

It’s been good. There could be more activities or more variety to the activities they offer. They’re a clean community. The staff is very friendly and we’re happy with them. The staff is the best feature of the community.

The facility is somewhat aged and has the basic amenities. It is well maintained. The grounds are well maintained and provide a serine setting for the residents, with plenty of walking room and areas to sit. One Bedroom apartments are fairly small, however, have ample closet space. The help staff is very friendly and I have witnessed an eagerness to help. They appear to know, by name, everyone in the community. My one comment is that there should be more assistance in transitioning new members into the community - a kind of big sister or big brother program - help with understanding the programs, how to take part in the community. My mom commented several times on the fact that information was not forthcoming or inconsistent. New resident orientation is not soon enough. This resulted in my mom having a very poor first impression of the community and a negative attitude. The food service is fair. In the few times our family has dined with mom (main dining room), the food and the service was inconsistent - cold, not what was requested (side dishes or condiments), long wait times. Based on my experience and comments received from my mom, the wait staff does not listen or does not provide clarification. Some examples - ordered a diner roll (received slice of bread), ordered mustard and onions (received Ketchup and relish), ordered baked potato (received potato with no condiments - butter etc., and was not asked if it was wanted when ordered. Laundry facilities in each of the resident buildings seem to small - only one set of washer/dryer. Wait times are very long.

Cindy, Lori were great. Takes David Troxel's 'best friends' approach, cost is w/in budget plus June is 10% off plus $3K move-in allowance; room has a kitchenette, chapel is a big part & the memory care folks attend with the assisted living residents. Then and now pics at entrance. Rooms stay locked or have door open.Initial assessment would be done at Mom's house. Outside paths ok, but needs flowers. Has one raised flowerbed.
