Brookdale

Mom and Dad visited my family and I in Virginia in May of 2013. I'd seen Mom deteriorating over the last few years, but this time was the worst by far. I couldn't believe Dad even attempted the two-day drive with her. He was so exhausted when he arrived that he sat down in the recliner and slept for five straight hours. He was haggard, run down, and weary of living and loving. His purpose of the trip was to get my opinion on what to do with Mom. We spent a long time talking about it, and my wife and I convinced him of what he already knew but was reluctant to admit...Mom needed more care than he could provide. Fortunately he had already done his research on facilities, and had determined that Brookdale Shawnee (formerly The Sweet Life) was the best facility in the area. So in June of 2013 my brother and I went home to help move Mom in. I cannot imagine a better place for a family member to be cared for than the Brookdale facility in Shawnee, Kansas. I've visited Mom several times in the last two years, and on each visit I leave impressed with the compassion and professionalism of the staff. They provide exquisite care in a demanding environment. They keep Mom clean and comfortable despite her physical ailments, and somehow they even manage to keep track of all the items she continues to misplace...shoes, glasses, sweaters, etc. The staff has always had a smile and kind words for visitors also. They go out of their way to make sure that family and friends know their loved ones are being cared for. Even though my visits are infrequent, I know the care provided is not just a show for visitors. I can tell because Dad is back to his lively and vibrant self. While resigned to the fact that Mom will never be well, the superior care that Mom is receiving has lifted such a burden from his shoulders that he is living again. And for that I cannot say enough words of gratitude. I know that caring for Dementia patients is taxing, but The Brookdale Shawnee staff make my mother feel safe, loved, and comfortable. Last summer I was with her while a visiting performer sang Elvis Presley, Everly Brothers, and Johnny Cash tunes from the 50's and 60's. Mom can't remember anything within the last 30 years, but she sang those songs from her childhood. It brought true joy to her eyes, and reminded me that inside she's still alive. I think they do a great job at Brookdale Novi! The staff here is wonderful! The facility tiself is clean and well kept, and they provide all sorts of amenities and activities for the residents. I also think they do a pretty good job with the food, I've eaten here a few times already and the food is pretty good! My loved one is having some trouble adjusting, but the staff has been very welcoming and accommodating, and they're doing everything they can to make him feel at home. I toured quite a few communities in the area, and this one just felt right from the moment I walked in. I would highly recommend them!

I really like how they had a simple, straight-forward financial arrangement, which is what we needed. The residents are friendly and willing to speak to us. They have a very nice dining experience. It is a pleasant environment to be in and I feel very comfortable going there.

It is a really neat place. They really have designed it and catered it around people with memory issues. They are extremely nice to all the resident there and try to get them involved. I like the way they put their slogan that they try to "join their journey", and they really do. It's different, but it's nice. I am pleased and my loved one is safe.

At Brookdale Weddington Park I was not too happy with him being in the slow eater area. I think they should have tried harder and had him with a different group. I think it was depressing for him. They were lax on getting laundry done. Some items wouldn't come back or they would come back marked.

He is happy at Brookdale Overland Park. Everything is going really well here. I really have no complaints thus far about this facility. It's nice and clean. The staff is friendly.

Since my first communication with this facility, I have been very pleased. Everyone is helpful, professional and the quality of the environment is very nice. I found it to be an ideal setting for my Mother.

Warm and caring staff. Residents look out for each other. I never worry about my dad.

I am having issues with Brookdale Westampton. I had a meeting today in fact. It would be good for a lot of people. But my husband has advanced Alzheimer. When my husband went into the facility he was walking, talking, shaving. In 5 weeks he has deteriorated. I'm not sure if it's them or if it is just the natural progression. The level of care that I paid went I went in is not the level of care he needs now. They listen to me and the staff is fine. He used to take his own food to the sink and now he wont even eat his food. For someone in milder stages of Alzheimer they are very good. The staff is trying. I wanted them to give him sleeping pill at night so he would be alert during the day. I feel like they should have been a little more knowledgeable in giving this medicine. Overall I wouldn't recommend it for someone with declining Alzheimer. I need more skilled nursing care. I just don't think it's the place for him. The food is fabulous, healthy and is like what I get in a restaurant. The staff are really helpful. It is a lovely facility, it is just no longer good for my husband.

My parents live in this community and are very well taken care of. The staff is wonderful and have really helped them adjust. The apartments are very nice and the common areas are always very clean and well kept.

Things have gone very very well with Brookdale Oak Hollow! The staff here is absolutely wonderful! The care staff is attentive and accommodating, and everyone from the aides to the management staff is attentive and welcoming! I also really appreciate that they have hospice workers on site. The facility itself is well kept and clean, and they have a lot to provide for the residents. I really couldn't be happier with them!

The staff at Brookdale Bellevue has just been really open with everything. They are also very friendly and have been helpful throughout the experience. It has just been a wonderful experience with them.

Our experience with Brookdale Fort Collins has been a very good one, I'd give them high marks across the board. The people are friendly and caring, and the facility itself is well kept and clean. I'd highly recommend it.

We love this facility!! Everyone is so friendly, it was super clean and they have many extras that we were not expecting. We feel that my sister will be very happy there. She was with us on the tour and was impressed also because she can take her kitty.

My 94 year old father has been at Brookdale Niskayuna for almost 3 years. We are very happy with the level of care he receives and the quality of life he continues to enjoy while a resident there. First and foremost, my father and I feel that he is safe and well cared for. It is a great relief to know that caring, professional staff are available to provide assistance 24/7 should it be required. Brookdale's medication management and coordination of transportation to doctor visits are services that simplify both of our lives. The facility shuttle is another great service my father uses frequently. It allows him to retain a level of independence he would not have otherwise. The conscientious shuttle driver always ensures that Howard is safe and secure in getting to and from his destination. As for quality of life, my father enjoys his independent apartment living with the convenience of prepared meals in the dining room, laundry, cleaning, and other services. He partakes in many of the on- and off-site social activities and especially enjoys destination trips to places like Lake George. Lastly, all of the administration, nursing, aides and other staff are professional, helpful, and friendly to my father and to me. Brookdale has become my father’s home, one in which he feels like a valued member of the community, cared for and content

Brookdale Valencia has been an excellent choice for my parents. They are both 89 and somewhere in between independent living and assisted living. Having assisted living in the same facility was a plus. The staff is very welcoming and so kind, they really do care about the residents. There are many activities available. My folks are getting accustomed to participating, they've been fairly isolated for many years. They like their privacy, they can be on their own in their apartment. They really enjoy the morning exercise class. In-house nursing and personal assistance staff have been outstanding. It's a huge adjustment for my whole family and there is support when we get overwhelmed. It's a very compassionate environment. Mom had a fall and a near-fall within the first few days, and she had help immediately. Perhaps that's the most important feature, she had help immediately.

Brookdale Chanate is a very nice place. It is beautiful at this facility. There are many things the seniors can take advantage of here. The apartments are very nice. The staff were really easy to work with. They really worked with getting us a discount. They helped make moving in very easy.

So far everything has gone good at Brookdale Grandon Farms, knock on wood! The only thing I have noticed is the air conditioning unit needs dusting. Other than that everything has gone well thus far. Overall I am really pleased.

Very caring staff. Location is great. Close to town and beaches. Balconies and a koi pond in the garden area would be a fantastic addition.

We're very pleased with how things have turned out with Brookdale Carriage Club! The staff here are friendly and responsive, very quick with follow-up, and they've really been a big help throughout the whole process!
