Small environment with a homey feeling. Staff communicates well with family members. Clean, safe facility. Well organized staff. Staff is very caring with residents.

We chose Elkhart place because it was a smaller community and they provided a wonderful security system where people cant just come in or leave. The room sizes here are very ample. I think the food could use some improvement, she did not feel like it is as good of quality and could use more variety. The staff here is wonderful and the facility itself is very nice. It is very friendly and upbeat community and I would definitely recommend it.

This facility has really changed. They updated the entire place. The residents seemed engaged while doing a socially distanced activity. The staff were very helpful with answering the many questions we had. Lunch was about to be served and smelled amazing. This is a front runner for us.

I talked with [name removed] and this community does not have a memory care option. But [name removed] said their Michigan City community has a dedicated memory care building and [names removed] will call me. Michigan City is too far away but a good memory care option is very important so I’m keeping the MC community on the plate!

Trail Creek Place was one of several assisted living facilities in LaPorte County that I visited a couple of weeks ago. I was very impressed with this particular place and here's why: During the tour that I was given, I saw a lot of interaction between residents. Instead of everyone being isolated in their rooms in the middle of the afternoon, I saw quite a few people sitting in a common area in the front of the building. There were people at tables--playing games, talking, laughing with each other. There were a variety of activities mentioned that are available to Trail Creek Place residents. Not just the usual bingo and so on. There's even an opportunity for residents to help raise money for different charities such as Salvation Army--which I thought was very cool. Secondly, the spacious courtyard seems like an unusually pleasant place to enjoy some outdoor time--like when a family is visiting, for example. The exterior looks well kept and the neighborhood is nice. (The facility is near Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Franciscan Medical Center.) I was most impressed by the sincere nature of the person who gave me the tour--Tricia. Her presentation was relaxed and down-to-earth instead of hard-sell, and I was able to learn a lot during the tour and during our discussion without feeling pressured to move forward in the least. Perhaps that may say something about how this facility does business.

I appreciate the people that work at Trail Creek Place. They are friendly and willing to help when needed.

My husband and I are looking at places for my sister to live. She is in a wheelchair. Needs help with personal care items. When we arrived we were greeted by very friendly staff. We received a folder with information about the facility, I.e. room dimensions that is very helpful to figure out what furniture would fit. On the tour we were shown different rooms, each one made me feel comfortable. The dining room was bright and cheery. They are very accommodating.

The staff is very nice to my mother. I appreciate everything the staff does for her. It is a relief knowing my mom is safe.

Dad has gone for respite car for about 4 weeks total in 2018. We find that the staff is more like family than "staff", making dad feel very much at home. He did wish there were more activities and a church service on weekends, though. All in all, its the next best place to home.

My parents have been here a year now. It is adequate & they are cared for, but not always & not consistently. As is common in these places, there is a lot of staff turnover & not much accountability. Either it’s someone new who doesn’t know what they need, or someone who leaves something undone for the next shift to handle. It has been mostly okay & definitely better than them living by themselves, but it’s not perfect. I gave them 4 stars because what they do is hard & staff comes and goes, but the backbone of it is strong and they do try to make it feel like home & they do have some activities.

I’ve been so concerned about yet another adjustment! It seems he has had to make so many and that is one of the hardest things for a person with dementia. When I think about it, he was in the hospital twice in a month (September 2017—mind you after not having EVER been admitted to any hospital save when he had thyroid surgery over 35 years ago) and once for major surgery—under spinal anesthesia!, then rehab, then moved to skilled nursing, then moved to a dementia/Alzheimer’s Unit, then to the hospital in Mishawaka, and now to (lovely) Trail Creek. He’s had to adjust to an indwelling catheter, life in a wheelchair after a fairly active lifestyle formerly, a few urinary tract infections, a bout of pneumonia……all within six months. [name removed], we are so thankful for the warm welcome. Really! Everyone was incredibly welcoming at a time when we were ALL nervous. We are thankful for the effort being made to ease his transition and the grace you are showing him during this stage of his life. Your update made my day. Your facility’s communication skills (you, [name removed], the executive director, [name removed], the aide on afternoon shift yesterday—her name escapes me, to name a few) have greatly surpassed anything we have experienced to date. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for caring for our dad. Gratefully, [name removed]

I found Brookdale through A Place for Mom. It is small and has promised to be quite personalized. My mother moved in 2 days ago, so I don't know how it will play out, but when we have had questions or encountered a problem, the staff was very responsive. My mother is trying hard, for her part, to make a pleasant life there.

Grand Emerald Place is very friendly and caring. It is cost efficient with great care. The staff, as well as the residents, are so welcoming and caring. The food is very good and homemade. The residents genuinely care for each other and seem to have a lot of fun. We are so happy that we found Grand Emerald as a home for our mother.

Kokomo Place has Mom so comfortable. This is now Mom's home. She calls it home and we are so happy. Overall, Mom loves the staff, the food, and the entire experience. The place is beautiful and lovely. Plus, we love it that it is secure.

The staff is wonderful. They really have gone out of their way to make Dad comfortable and happy. Dad has been very happy here. It is a friendly atmosphere. They work so well with Dad and with the family.

We were so happy that the staff worked with us to make the move in for my Mom very pleasant. In fact, they helped us find someone to help auction our farm to help us. When we discussed the possibility of selling the farm, Mom looked at me after seeing her apartment, smiled, raised her arm and said, "Sold!". It was such a good experience. The staff is awesome! Everyone is so pleasant, courteous, and friendly. I am so happy. Any time I ask a question, I get a full, detailed answer. I really appreciate that. I could not be happier with the staff. I would love to love here, too. Great meals every day, laundry done, housekeeping, great staff. I would move in, too.

My mom has been there since Jan 2017. First let me say I went and checked out several other places and none seemed to fit her needs better than Kokomo Place. After being there just a little while I noticed a great improvement in her overall being. She is thriving there - she is not staying in bed all day like she was at my home. They have exercising every morning and all sorts of activities throughout the rest of the day, everyday. There is an events coordinator who puts together a monthly calendar to inform the residents of what they can expect to do on a daily basis. But let me tell you a little about their staff. They have a GREAT staff. From their nursing (24/7) to their financing to their business office. [Removed], their Community Resident Manager, helped me get my mom VA assistance, as she was qualified for the assistance. Let me tell you, he made my life easier. I'm sure if I had to do it all myself, with the VA, I'd still be handling it and not know what to do. [Removed] got in touch with people and kept on top of the individual situations as they appeared. To make a longer story short [Removed] more than assisted in getting my mom VA assistance, as she was qualified for it. Overall, you won't find a nicer place of people who make you feel welcomed the first day you come. You and they call this place YOUR HOME.

My mom is really happy here. Everyone who works here really cares and they do a wonderful job making sure that she has a happy life! It feels like home here! [Removed] is awesome! All of the other staff is too!
